About the course

China is a country with a long history, a brilliant culture and a large territory. With a vast land of the endless sky, the climate, geomorphology, dietary customs, dialect and people's personalities are quite different. Within Jiangsu Province, the Yangtze River and Huaihe River run across from west to east, and the Grand Canal traverses from south to north. The unique geographical location not only makes Jiangsu more open and tolerant, with both northern and southern regional features, but also flows its own colors in China because of its beautiful scenery, quaint local customs, economic prosperity and advanced education.

To some extent, the development of Jiangsu reflects the development of China, and Jiangsu culture reflects the extensive and profound Chinese culture. The objective of this course is to enable learners to deepen their understanding of Jiangsu's economic development, people's lives and cultural traditions through understanding Jiangsu's history, customs and geographic landscapes. By learning about Jiangsu and traveling around Jiangsu, one will definitely become to love Jiangsu, so as to arouse international students' interest in Jiangsu culture and even Chinese culture.

Taking Jiangsu culture as an example, the course strives to make an interpretation from theoretical, practical and cultural perspectives.  Through looking at selected cities, human landscape and traditional culture, combined with cultural experiencial activities, it is expected to improve learners' understanding and perception of Chinese culture, especially traditional culture in Jiangsu. 

About the teacher

黄华半身照.jpgHuang Hua, Professor, received her Ph.D. from East China Normal University. She is appointed a MA student supervisor. She was a visiting researcher of University of Pennsylvania and Karlsruher Institut für Technologie (KIT). She was selected the young and middle-aged science and technology leader of Jiangsu Province "333 high-level talent" Project. She has long focused on the study of internationalization of education and made groundbreaking achievements for the campus internationalization of two higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu. She has won the first prize of the Provincial Teaching Achievement Award twice, published 1 monograph and over 20 papers in core journals.
