About the course

Modern Mining Technology is a full-English major course, Mining Method and Mining Pressure and Strata Control courses are suggested to learn previously. This course is suitable for majors such as mining engineering, safety engineering and geology engineering etc. The knowledge including general mining knowledge, mining system, mine design and panel layout, roadway support and rapid development, coal and gas coextraction mining, backfilling mining, water protection in underground mining, dust control mining etc. is introduced.

Through the course of the classroom teaching and discussion, the students can grasp modern mining technology and system, meanwhile consolidate the basic English vocabulary and basic knowledge of mining engineering. This course will cultivate students' ideal of modern mining, the ability of English professional learning , academic expression and also solving the problems of mining damage and environment in coal mining by using English language environment and homework, classroom report, the quiz and model class study.

The highlights of the course are openness and practical. The curriculum content closely combined with mining knowledge system and production practice. At the same time, with the rapid development of the mining engineering discipline, teachers have the latest research achievements in their respective disciplines. this course will give teachers some autonomy, under the premise of ensuring basic content teaching, the other teaching content can be selectively lectured according to the teachers' individual specialty.

About the teacher

Course leader and lecturer: ZHANG Lei, Associate Professor of China University of Mining & Technology, PhD & BEng of Mining Engineering. Dr. Zhang is the winner of the Young Elite Scientists Sponsorship Program by CAST, National Coal Youth Science and Technology Award, Top Hundred Teacher Award of CUMT, Member of China Coal Society, Identified Mining Engineer by Engineers Australia Association etc. He currently teaches Modern Mining Technology, Mining Frontier, Intercultural Communication etc. courses. He is the leader of several high level teaching and research projects.
