The Scotland Academy, which is jointly run by Taihu University in Wuxi, Jiangsu province and the University of the West of Scotland in the United Kingdom, recently welcomed its first students, local media reported on Sept 28.

As the first Sino-foreign joint school in Jiangsu province to be run by a second-tier university, the Scotland Academy will have its Chinese faculty focusing on basic education and British teachers focusing on professional education. Classes meant to increase students' English fluency will be taught by teachers from both schools.

Teachers, instructors, and administrative staff at the academy all have extensive overseas work experience and many have PhDs and doctorates from foreign colleges and universities.

Founded in 2002, the Wuxi Taihu University is dedicated to increasing its academic strength, and its majors for internet of things engineering, mechanical engineering, and accounting were rated national first-tier majors for undergraduate education.

The school has attracted a number of high-end professionals from home and abroad and has invested over 1 billion yuan ($148.4 million) into the construction of six experimental and practice centers.
