Statistics show that Jiangsu has set up 4,658 postgraduate work stations since 2008, attracting over 6,000 college teachers, 8,000 enterprise mentors, and tens of thousands of postgraduates to carry out scientific research there.

The province and its graduate work stations have rolled out detailed plans on talent cultivation, concerning how to select qualified graduates, how to handle the research funds and operating funds of different projects, and how to meet the research and living needs of tutors and graduates.

Jiangsu also led the way in inviting entrepreneurs from high-tech companies to work as graduate mentors. Statistics show that the number of such tutors has reached 1,601 since the policy was put into practice in 2010, covering over 30 fields such as high-end equipment, internet of things, bio-pharmaceuticals, artificial intelligence, and new energy.

"Enterprise tutors have rich professional knowledge and practical experience and they can guide our graduates to use their knowledge in favorable positions," said Ren Xiaofeng, a professor at the School of Food and Biological Engineering of Jiangsu University.

"Our ultimate goal is to sharpen graduates' advantages in professional knowledge and practical experience and help them better acclimatize to local enterprises," said Hong Liu, an official from the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education.
