Students from Soochow University in Suzhou, Jiangsu province recently volunteered to offer free online lessons to children of local frontline healthcare and essential workers to enrich their winter holiday, local media outlets reported.

The activity, which had its application channel opened for only three days, gained the participation of 50 local families, with most of them being families of medical workers.

Volunteers offered a total of 16 online courses, covering a variety of topics like fun learning, skills development, traditional culture, and psychological companionship.

For example, physics lessons included interesting but easy-to-follow experiments; psychological lessons guided children to improve their interpersonal relationships through paintings, sitcoms, and behavior portraits; and handicraft lessons tried to enhance children's practical and creative capabilities through paper-cutting and paper-folding.

Chen Xiaoran, who volunteered to deliver the course of Interesting Characters, said the activity has also made her winter holiday more meaningful.

"I felt honored to do my bit to help these frontline workers who have devoted themselves to safeguarding the country and the society," Chen said.

According to Yu Qianchi, director of Soochow University's volunteers team, a total of 600 students volunteered to offer free online lessons during the winter holiday and they followed a one-on-one or one-on-many mode.
