East China's Jiangsu province on Feb 5 unveiled its plan to build high-level universities from 2021-25.

The plan consists of seven major tasks, including educating innovative talent, training qualified teachers, conducting advanced scientific research, providing high-quality social services, enhancing international cooperation and exchanges, and building a modern governance system.

By the end of 2025, the province aims to place 20 of its universities, including 11 under provincial jurisdiction, at the top of China's list of high-level higher education institutions. It also plans to add two or three disciplines in provincially-administered universities in the top 10 percent in China.

Jiangsu will provide preferential policies, financial support and other necessary resources to help its universities achieve this goal. It will also deepen educational reforms to build a dynamic, efficient and open system.

Three special projects will be rolled out to employ professors, develop universities' own unique characteristics, and improve their ability to support provincial and national economic and social development.

In addition, a working group consisting of officials from relevant government departments will be formed to make policies, coordinate different parties, and review their performance.
