The Ministry of Education released its first batch of schools for future technologies, of which Southeast University in East China's Jiangsu province was among the 12 universities included, local media outlets reported.

According to the announcement, schools for future technologies will strive to develop cutting-edge, revolutionary, and leading technologies, cultivating innovative talents, transforming "Made in China" to "Created in China", as well as other goals related to the development of future technologies.

The concept of "schools for future technologies" was released by the MOE in May 2020. Applied by universities and approved by experts throughout the year, 12 universities were included in the MOE's list, such as Peking University, Tsinghua University, as well as Southeast University.

Southeast University will base the new school on its Chien-Shiung Wu College, which is an experimental base for excellent talents and teaching reform. It will focus on chip design, information materials, future telecommunications, and smart sensors. In addition, it will deepen industry-university-research cooperation, further attracting high-quality global teaching sources, as well as cultivating key achievements in future technology fields.
