Nanjing University on Sep 4 received a sample of lunar soil obtained by the Chang'e 5 mission.

The sample of lunar soil is in powder form and weighs 1 gram. It was loaned to the university for a year.

The research team of NJU will complete the design, preparation and utilization of extraterrestrial artificial photosynthetic materials and equipment based on the sample.

A total of 31 lunar soil samples were issued to 13 organizations by the China National Space Administration. NJU is the only organization among the 13 that will study the transformation and catalytic utilization of lunar soil.

According to CNSA, the lunar soil sample must be stored in an environment where the oxygen content is not higher than 20 parts per million (ppm) and the water vapor content is not higher than 50ppm.

The storage space must be continuously monitored and real-time audio-visual and text recordings are required during experiments.
