Since the beginning of the new semester, primary and middle schools in Jiangsu province have been offering various after-school services to students.

They have been following the guideline jointly issued by the general offices of the Communist Party of China Central Committee and the State Council in July to reduce the excessive burden of homework and after-school tutoring for students.

"We finish our homework in the first class of the after-school service time and attend club activities in the second class," said Wang Huibo, a student at Wuxi Chongninglu Experimental Primary School in Liangxi district, Wuxi .

The school has set up more than 40 multi-level clubs for students, such as those for drones, 3D printing pens, chorus, Wuxi opera, badminton, football, and literature.

Schools in Liangxi district have organized nearly 300 clubs for after-school services involving all the teachers.

In Kunshan Yufeng Experimental School, the after-school service time was divided into three periods for Grade 1 and 2, as well as two periods for Grade 3 to 6.

Students in Grade 1 and 2 can do homework in the first period of after-school service, attend different school activities like rope jumping, drawing, handcrafts, and ball games in the second period, and read books based on their own interests in the third period.

Teachers from the school are currently in charge of after-school activities. The school will also recruit professionals and volunteers like retired teachers, sports coaches, skilled craftsmen, and intangible cultural heritage inheritors for various after-school services.

At Lianyungang Xinhai Experimental Middle School, students do their homework, with teachers available to offer immediate help when they encounter any difficulties they might encounter during after-school service time. The school also offers dinner to students.
