Zhang Wei, senior engineer of the China Ship Scientific Research Center of China State Shipbuilding Corporation, gave a lecture on deep sea technologies at Huaxia Tianyi Bilingual School in Wuxi, Jiangsu province on Oct 25.
As the first science researcher to give a speech at the "Quansheng Lecture Hall" of the bilingual school, Zhang introduced in detail the development of deep-sea technology and deep-sea manned submersibles, as well as the application of deep-sea manned submersibles in China.
Students at the bilingual school showed great interest in the mysterious deep sea. They also asked many questions afterwards.
On Nov 10, 2020, China's new manned submersible Fendouzhe, or Striver, set a national diving record of 10,909 meters in the Challenger Deep, the deepest known point in Earth's oceans. Zhang Wei was involved in the diving mission as deputy chief designer of electrical systems, chief of the submersible division, and chief operator.
The "Quansheng Lecture Hall" is named after Pan Quansheng, chairman of the school board. The lecture hall is designed to hold regular lectures by experts, scholars, and role models in certain industries with the purpose of strengthening the sense of responsibility and mission among teachers and students.
