High school students to recite Peace Proclamation on National Memorial Day

Eighty-four students from Zhonghua High School in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province will read the poem Peace Proclamation at a commemorative ceremony to mourn the victims of the Nanjing Massacre on Dec 13, which is National Memorial Day.
The day marks the 84th anniversary of the Nanjing Massacre, a war atrocity committed by Japanese invaders in 1937.
Zhonghua High School has organized different activities, such as visits to the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders and conducting history classes, to help students truly understand the poem.

Zhou Lixin, deputy head of the department for Party-related affairs at the school, said patriotism and peace are important topics in the school's education curriculum. Students should learn about the history of the city where they grow up and global trends, while acquiring knowledge and skills, said Zhou.
One of the reciters Xia Wenjing said that Nanjing suffered a lot of pain in the past and that students in the city should remember its history, as well as cherish peace.
