The School of Humanities of Southeast University in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province has established an academy to provide students with aesthetic education to improve their artistic sensibility and mental health.

The academy is named after Guo Bingwen, an influential Chinese educator and the first president of the university. Since October 2020, the academy has developed a series of courses on topics like architecture, music, poetry and paintings to help students understand the beauty of culture and history.

On important festivals or days that mark the beginning of one of the 24 solar terms, the academy conducts classes in which students learn crafts such as kite making, paper cutting, and embroidery.

The academy also works with the university's mental health education center to help students who are under mental pressure and in distress.

The academy aims to help ease students' academic pressure while developing their aesthetic abilities, said Wang Jue, director of the School of Humanities. To date, more than 1,000 students have attended the academy's classes, according to Wang.
