Nanjing Forestry University stresses education of agricultural, forestry talent
Nanjing Forestry University in Nanjing, Jiangsu province has intensified its efforts to foster competent agricultural and forestry talent to help with the country's agricultural modernization and rural rejuvenation.
The university has improved the structure of its disciplines and added new majors to prepare its students for the ever-changing agricultural and forestry industries. In the past, the majors were organized based on the segments of agricultural production, which limited students' knowledge and skills to a specific field and made it difficult for them to deal with complicated issues in the real world.
To address the problem, the university introduced modern technologies such as new materials and information technology to improve traditional disciplines. It has also offered new majors in intelligent manufacturing, big data management, and artificial intelligence, among others.
More than 75 percent of the university's graduates are currently doing jobs related to their academic background.
In addition, 212 general knowledge classes involving humanism, the scientific spirit and global vision are on offer to equip students with broad knowledge.
Since 2013, the university has been organizing over 100 teams of students every year to conduct surveys in villages and enterprises and get them interested in forestry and agriculture. To date, the students have produced 438 research reports and provided technical support to many places and companies.
A two-month ecological cultural festival is also held every year on campus. The festival involves more than 40 different activities, including high-level forums and green technology exhibitions.
