Wang Hailong, a sophomore at the School of Mechanical Engineering of Jiangsu University in Zhenjiang, East China's Jiangsu province, recently made a numerically controlled camera slider on his own, local media outlets reported on April 11.

Wang is a member of the university's television station and has always had a passion for photography. He was inspired to make a camera slider because such equipment is too expensive for him.

A numerically controlled camera slider usually sells for at least 1,000 yuan ($157.01).

The operating principle of a camera slider is not very complicated and a mechanical engineering major knows well about drawing blueprints and putting together components, said Wang, who took just two days to create the slider. He spent 300 yuan on the materials required.

Wang is also a member of the university's association of future engineers. Established in 2017, the association has received eight national-level prizes and 29 provincial-level prizes.

Wang Yifang, a guidance counselor at the association, said they will impart engineering knowledge to students and help them participate in innovation and entrepreneurship projects and competitions to improve their abilities.
