An alumnus of Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications Li Shuncheng donated 1 billion yuan ($155.01 million) to the school to set up an education fund on April 18, which marked the 80th anniversary of the founding of the university.

Li started studying at the school of telecommunications engineering of the university, which is located in Nanjing, East China's Jiangsu province, in 1981. He is the cofounder of Beijing Interstellar Glory Space Technology Co, which successfully launched the Hyperbola-1 carrier rocket in 2019, and the president of Guangdong Vuetop Communication Technology Co.

Li had previously sponsored a garden with about 1,000 orange osmanthus trees in the school five years ago.

Ye Meilan, principal of NJUPT, expressed her gratitude to Li at the donation ceremony and said that the university has educated many outstanding talents like Li.
