Zhenjiang in East China's Jiangsu province on April 20 launched a campaign that involves having local schools and villages impart agricultural knowledge and skills to students.
Ten villages in the city were designated as education bases for students to learn about farming activities. The villages will also send an agricultural technician to each school to provide guidance on growing rice in buckets.
Schools will also hold various activities, including movie sessions, lectures, and village visits to educate the students about agriculture.
The campaign is aimed at exploring the educational value in farming, fostering a love of agriculture in students, and teaching them to cherish the fruits of other people's labor, said an official at the education bureau of Zhenjiang.
In 2021, 36 kindergartens, middle and primary schools and four villages in Zhenjiang participated in a same campaign. Zhao Yafu, an agricultural expert and former deputy director of the Standing Committee of the Zhenjiang Municipal People's Congress, was among the instructors involved.
Students planted about 1,200 buckets of rice during the campaign.
