Fifth writing contest for overseas Chinese youths starts
A launch ceremony for the fifth creative writing contest for overseas Chinese youths was held in Nantong, East China's Jiangsu province on May 24.
Organized by seven departments including the Publicity Department of the CPC Jiangsu Provincial Committee, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, and the Federation of Jiangsu Returned Overseas Chinese, the contest is aimed at encouraging youths from across the world to learn and use Chinese and promoting traditional Chinese culture.
The previous four editions of the contest received more than 45,000 works by students at Chinese schools in 52 different countries and regions. Excellent works were compiled into books and published.
Wang Xiaohong, head of the united front work department of the CPC Nantong Municipal Committee, said the city will design textbooks and set up schools with its partners to provide overseas Chinese with high-quality learning materials related to Chinese culture.
Many types of Chinese books were donated to overseas schools including the Huaxia Chinese Culture School in Australia during the ceremony.
