More than 30 students from China and abroad learned to write the Chinese characters "和平", which mean peace, using Chinese writing brushes on June 11 at the Memorial Hall of the Victims in Nanjing Massacre by Japanese Invaders in Nanjing, the capital of East China's Jiangsu province.

Learning Chinese calligraphy can inspire foreigners to know more about Chinese culture and customs, said Yang Tianci, a member of the China Calligraphers Association.

A participant from South Korea who studies at the School of Humanities of Southeast University said he has always been interested in Chinese culture and will continue to take part in such activities in the future.

Works by over 100 calligraphers that are themed around history and peace were also exhibited at the memorial hall.
