The first cohort of the Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology in Nanjing, capital of East China's Jiangsu province, attended their graduation ceremony on June 10, becoming the first graduates since the school was allowed to confer bachelor's degree in May 2022.

The 903 students majored in subjects including mechatronics engineering, automation technology and application, electronic information engineering, software engineering, and international economics and trade.

According to Lian Fei, the director of student enrollment and employment at the university, 60 percent of the graduates will stay in Nanjing while 80 percent will stay in Jiangsu and work in the intelligent manufacturing industry.

To produce more talents, the vocational university has established close relationships with enterprises. For example, ZTE Communications has collaborated with the university to design education plans for undergraduate students and sent engineers to provide curriculum advice, said Wu Xiaoqing, recruitment director at ZTE.

Wu added that the company is eager to become more involved in the training of undergraduate students. He suggested students work part-time at companies in their last year at school. Six students from the Nanjing Vocational University of Industry Technology have already started working at ZTE this year, said Wu.
