Jiangsu universities lead the country in student innovation, entrepreneurship

Projects from 25 universities in East China's Jiangsu province received 60 gold awards, the most among all participating regions, at the recent 8th China International College Students' "Internet+" Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition.

Organized by 12 central government departments including the Ministry of Education and the Chongqing municipal government this year, the competition is the largest of its kind in China. Over 14.5 million students from 4,554 universities in 108 countries participated in this year's edition.

This year, Jiangsu's universities sent 125,900 teams to the competition, and 171 of them made it to the national finals. During the event, students and teachers from more than 150 universities also cooperated with farmers, cooperatives, companies and governments to help promote rural vitalization, modern agriculture, and other causes.

Over the past eight years, 1.49 million students from Jiangsu's universities attended the national innovation and entrepreneurship competition and were awarded 156 gold awards. Over 5,000 enterprises with a combined value of 20 billion yuan ($2.86 billion) have been established by Jiangsu college students because of this event.
