Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province has initiated 18 projects related to building or renovating schools this year as part of its efforts to bring locals tangible benefits, according to the city's education authorities.
The 18 projects, which will cost about 3.8 billion yuan ($545.03 million), involve four kindergartens, three primary schools, three middle schools, six senior high schools, and two schools that offer nine-year compulsory education.
One of the new schools to be built is the Meicun Experimental Middle School in Wuxi's Xinwu district. Upon completion in August 2024, the school will have more amenities compared to its older counterparts. The school is expected to enroll 2,400 students every year.
Wuxi has this year also attracted 223 outstanding graduates from high-level comprehensive universities who will teach at the city's schools. Forty-six of the talents had studied at an overseas university listed in the Times Higher Education top 100 ranking.
