Primary, middle school students in Jiangsu start winter holidays

Primary and middle school students in East China's Jiangsu province began their winter holidays on Jan 12.
The Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education has urged schools to reduce the amount of homework and give students more time to take part in holiday activities and do physical exercise during the holiday.
Nanjing Xiaoying Primary School has encouraged students to experience Chinese New Year traditions such as making dumplings and paper cuttings.
Wang Fang, assistant to the dean of the primary school, said they will also offer courses related to local culture and history during the holiday.
A middle school in Huai'an invited traffic police officers to conduct a road safety class for students and their parents before the winter holiday.
