Wuxi in East China's Jiangsu province recently issued a guideline on promoting the high-quality development of its vocational education.

According to the guideline, Wuxi aims to build one to two technical universities, three new higher vocational colleges, and about 10 provincial-level secondary vocational schools by the end of 2025.

Five specialties related to cutting-edge sectors, including internet of things, integrated circuits, and new energy, will be given greater priority. The percentage of vocational school teachers who have professional qualifications will also be increased to over 90 percent.

To promote digitalization in vocational education, 100 free online courses and 100 digital textbooks will be rolled out.

Vocational schools at different levels will make efforts to keep their courses and educations plans consistent so as to achieve integrated development. They will also expand cooperation with general high schools and universities.

Enterprises have also been urged to join vocational schools in training highly skilled talents. Forty cooperation projects between leading companies and vocational institutes will be launched in Wuxi, according to the guideline.
