Jiangsu builds information-rich digital education platform
East China's Jiangsu province has been ramping up its efforts to build an online smart education platform since it became one of the first pilot areas for national smart education platforms.
The province's education authorities have cooperated with government departments related to information technology and finance as well as internet companies to develop the platform. Schools and teachers have also been urged to share digital textbooks, free online courses, and other resources on the platform.
The Jiangsu smart education platform currently has more than 30 applications that serve the needs of millions of teachers and students from all kinds of schools. It also shares data with China's national smart education platform.
The "Teachers' Online Classes" application developed by the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education is aimed at offering real-time online tutorials to primary and middle school students. It has been used more than five million times over the past year.
The province also has a smart employment platform that helps college graduates find jobs. More than five million college students and about 120,000 employers have registered to use the platform.
Rural schools and schools lacking high-quality educational resources have also received a boost through the smart education platforms. According to Cao Aidong, the principal of Rudong Experimental Primary School, the school has been sharing classes with Lianyungang Miaoling Primary School through the internet and videoconferencing.
Wei Xiyuan, director of the Jiangsu Center for Educational Technology, said they will involve more companies and social organizations in the building of the smart education platforms.
