Overview: Wuxi Institute of Technology (WXIT), founded in 1959, is an independent and full-time public higher vocational college. It was authorized by the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China and is now under Jiangsu Education Department's jurisdiction.

WXIT is one of the first "National Model Higher Vocational Colleges" groups. In 2012, WXIT was approved to offer four-year bachelor educational programs by collaborating with Jiangsu University to cultivate high-quality professional and technical talents. There are 14 academic schools and 54 majors with more than 14,400 full-time students and more than 1,000 faculty members. Since 2014, WXIT has enrolled more than 2000 international students from 60 countries, which is at a leading level in Jiangsu vocational colleges.

In 2023, WXIT ranks No. 2 among the 1,400 Chinese vocational Colleges. By far, WXIT has won 5 national-level teaching awards, owned 2 National Training Bases and 2 National Teaching Resources Databases, and offered vocational skills training and appraisal for 63 professions.

WXIT won 3 consecutive Excellence Awards from the World Federation of Colleges and Polytechnics (WFCP) since 2020. In 2018, the School of Ireland was jointly built by WXIT and Technological University of the Shannon: Midlands Midwest, which is the first Chinese-foreign cooperatively-run school among vocational colleges of Jiangsu Province. WXIT is one of the most internationalized higher vocational colleges in Jiangsu Province.
