Nanjing University hosts conference on 'Intermedial Ibsen'

The 15th International Ibsen Conference took place at Nanjing University in China's Jiangsu province from Monday to Wednesday.

Hosted by Nanjing University and co-hosted by the University of Oslo, the conference focused on the theme of "Intermedial Ibsen" to introduce new research perspectives into Ibsen studies.

Key attendees included Chen Yunsong, deputy Party secretary of Nanjing University; He Chengzhou, dean of the School of Arts of Nanjing University; and He Ning, dean of the School of Foreign Studies of Nanjing University.

International dignitaries including Solfrid Dahl Helgesen, the Norwegian deputy consul general in Shanghai; Lisbeth Wærp, president of the International Ibsen Committee; and Frode Helland, dean of the Faculty of Humanities of the University of Oslo, were also present.

With over 200 article submissions from around the world, the conference explored topics like the depiction of artists in Ibsen's plays, film adaptations, and intercultural performances of Ibsen's works.

Professor He Chengzhou, the conference organizer and the first Chinese chair of the International Ibsen Committee, has been awarded the Norwegian "Ibsen Medal".

Nanjing University values cooperation with Norway and other Nordic countries. Through platforms like the China-Nordic Cultural Center and the China-Norway Maritime University Alliance, the university promotes scientific research cooperation and cultural exchanges, enhancing its internationalization efforts.

Emphasizing internationalization as a priority, Nanjing University plans to leverage successful initiatives like the "Overseas Academicians" Lecture Series and the "Nanjing University-Cambridge" Global Humanities Cooperation to enhance international scientific research and educational activities, fostering exchanges between Chinese and foreign artists and artworks while elevating its global engagement.
