The "First Class of the New Semester" for international students in Jiangsu was held at Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics on Sept 26.

The event gathered nearly 400 attendees, including international students and officials responsible for international student programs from 12 universities across the province, such as Nanjing University, Southeast University, and Soochow University.

Yang Shubing, deputy director-general of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, highlighted that this event was the first of its kind. He encouraged students to embrace this new beginning and make new progress. He also emphasized Jiangsu's role as a leading province in economy, culture, and education, making it a top destination for international students.

Irina, a doctoral student from Kazakhstan at Southeast University, shared her passion for Chinese history and culture and her experiences studying in Jiangsu. She expressed her commitment to furthering her research in art theory and contributing to cultural exchanges between China and other countries.

Zhang Ke, a professor from Hohai University, offered international students eight suggestions, encouraging them to explore local culture, take advantage of Jiangsu's academic resources, build strong friendships, and maintain open communication with academic advisors to support their professional growth.

Ethiopian alumnus Abera Tadesse Eticha, now the deputy auditor general of Ethiopia, shared his experience studying in China through a video message. He expressed gratitude for the education system and opportunities provided, and encouraged current students to work hard and strengthen ties between China and their home countries.
