The China University of Mining and Technology opened its 10th International Cultural Festival on Nov 23, aiming to deepen understanding and strengthen friendships among students and faculty from China and abroad while promoting a more diverse campus culture.
The festival began with a vibrant display of Chinese traditional lion dance and a heartfelt rendition of the song We Are the World by international students from 32 countries. This marked the start of a series of performances showcasing the unique cultural traditions of various regions. Highlights included a song and dance performance by Vietnamese students from Jiangsu Normal University, an African dance by students from Xuzhou Medical University, and an ethnic costume display by CUMT's international students.

In addition to the performances, nearly 1,000 international students and alumni set up 40 booths, presenting traditional clothing, crafts, and cuisine from their respective countries. The exhibition drew close to 10,000 faculty members and students, who had the opportunity to experience diverse cultures and taste exotic foods.
The festival also featured four traditional Chinese culture experience zones, where visitors had the chance to try their hand at traditional crafts like lacquered fans, Chinese calligraphy, sugar figurines, and crispy snacks.
Following the opening ceremony, the festival will continue with a series of events, including a photography and painting competition, a Chinese language contest for international students, and a Chinese song competition for international students in Xuzhou. The festivities will run until the end of December.
Since its inception in 2013, the International Cultural Festival at CUMT has hosted a variety of interactive events, greatly enhancing mutual understanding and respect between Chinese and international students.
