International students celebrate Chinese New Year at Nantong Vocational University

The School of International Cooperation and Education of Nantong Vocational University hosted a vibrant Chinese New Year celebration for international students on Jan 22.

Students from Namibia, Pakistan, Laos, Vietnam, and other countries gathered to experience Chinese New Year traditions, including  dragon dancing, writing the Chinese character "fu" (good fortune), wearing traditional Chinese clothing, and performing songs and dances.

Guided by instructors, the students learned dragon dancing, bringing the colorful dragon to life in a symbolic gesture of good luck and prosperity. They also picked up brushes to write "fu" and Spring Festival couplets, expressing their hopes for the coming year.

To enhance cultural understanding, the university organized a session where participants could try on traditional Chinese clothing. Wearing the elegant traditional attire, students felt transported to ancient China, marveling at its beauty and rich cultural significance.

The celebration also featured performances by international students showcasing music and dances from their home countries. The lively beats and energetic moves created an electric atmosphere, fostering cultural exchange and camaraderie.
