Foreign teacher, students experience Dragon Boat Festival traditions in Wuxi

"I've lived and worked in China for over 20 years, but this is my first time making zongzi and sachets — it's such a wonderful experience!" said Kris Winfield, a foreign teacher at Wuxi Boston International School, on May 29 at a community canteen in Xin'an subdistrict, Xinwu district, Wuxi.

Winfield joined international students from Jiangnan University and local residents to take part in the first event of the "Deep Walk" Tour of the Taihu Bay Sci-Tech Innovation City series. The immersive experience highlighted the area's cultural heritage and vibrant, innovative atmosphere.

Xin'an subdistrict has curated five themed routes through Taihu Bay Sci-Tech Innovation City, weaving together scenes of industrial innovation, local cuisine, recreation, traditional culture, and science education. The initiative aims to create an immersive urban exploration experience and showcase the unique lifestyle and appeal of the city.

The opening event focused on themes of life and food, featuring stops at local highlights such as a teahouse, a coffee shop, and a talent apartment.

Volunteers shared the cultural history and meaning behind Dragon Boat Festival customs, deepening the international participants' understanding of Chinese traditions.

International students from Jiangnan University explored the welcoming living environment and learned about Wuxi's talent-friendly policies. Many expressed interests in staying in Wuxi after graduation, drawn by the city's inclusivity and abundant opportunities.
