Earlier this year, a group of international students from Yangzhou Polytechnic College began volunteering as interpreters at the Yangzhou Museum, sharing the stories behind Chinese cultural relics with foreign visitors.
Among them is Vanessa from Ukraine, who expressed her enthusiasm, "I love the artifacts here. Each one is beautiful and carries a touching story. I'm honored to be its storyteller." Another student from Mali said, "Many African students have come to China this year. I use languages they understand to introduce them to Yangzhou's history and open the door to Chinese culture.”
To assist international students in better understanding historical and cultural content, the museum collaborated with the university. "When writing the scripts, we often add background information or adapt the content to their own cultures to make it easier for them to understand and remember," said Liu, vice-dean of the college's School of International Exchange.
According to Wang Xiaoxiao, director of the Education Department at Yangzhou Museum, over 10 international students have joined the volunteer team. "They received professional training and passed a selection process. They've earned praise from many foreign tourists," she said. "As more international visitors travel to Jiangsu, we welcome more student volunteers from around the world to join us and share Chinese stories from a cross-cultural perspective."
