Jiangsu home to 15 top Chinese universities

The Shanghai Ranking Consultancy, an organization dedicated to research on higher education intelligence and consultation, released the 2021 Best Chinese Universities Ranking on April 26, local media outlets reported.

Jiangsu province had 15 universities ranked China's top 100, led by the prestigious Nanjing University at number five.

Southeast University followed at 17th place, Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics at 35, Nanjing University of Science and Technology at 37, Soochow University at 44, Nanjing Normal University at 47, Nanjing Agricultural University at 52, Hohai University at 60, China University of Mining and Technology at 61, Jiangnan University at 65, Jiangsu University at 72, Yangzhou University at 77, Nanjing Tech University at 87, Nanjing University of Information Science and Technology at 91, and Nanjing University of Posts and Telecommunications at 95.

The top 100 were drawn from 1,211 Chinese universities, which including 828 public schools, 204 private schools, 172 independent colleges, and six schools cooperating with foreign institutions or with Hong Kong, Macao, or Taiwan.

The ranking is based on the schools' performance in 10 categories, including academic quality, educational resources, faculty, talent cultivation, scientific research, and international competitiveness.

The ranking has been released every year since 2015 and has become a professional indicator of China's overall higher education performance.
