Jiangsu province is rapidly rising as a leading destination for students from ASEAN countries, with both the number and quality of ASEAN students ranking among the highest in China.

This development was highlighted at the recent Jiangsu–ASEAN Education Cooperation Exchange Conference, where five major achievements from the past five years were unveiled, alongside the launch of the Jiangsu–ASEAN Youth Exchange Program, which is meant to boost regional sustainable development through talent cultivation.

Over the past five years, Jiangsu has enrolled over 40,000 ASEAN students — 25 percent of its international student population — and has trained 52,000 officials, educators, and technical professionals from ASEAN nations.

Institutions like Hohai University are also nurturing talent through programs like the Lancang-Mekong College, offering training in water resources and disaster prevention. Around 500 government officials and young professionals from Mekong countries have received targeted training.

Jiangsu universities have established 64 overseas education programs in ASEAN over the past five years, including the Luban Workshop in Indonesia and the Zheng He College in Thailand, focusing on high-quality, industry-driven education. Jiangsu University's joint lab with Chiang Mai University supports China-Thailand green energy cooperation, working on renewable energy and carbon capture technologies.

As the province deepens ties through initiatives like the China-ASEAN Education Exchange Week, its education system continues to serve regional development. By promoting cross-cultural exchanges, developing international vocational standards, and aligning training with local needs, Jiangsu is not only educating ASEAN youth but also preparing a new generation of global talent.
