Twenty-seven international students from countries including Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Cameroon and Tanzania recently took part in a cultural activity in Nanjing, where they admired festive lanterns and learned to make their own, gaining firsthand experience of traditional Chinese culture.

Chen Tao, a recognized inheritor of the Qinhuai lantern-making craft, demonstrated the traditional techniques and guided the students through the process. Under his step-by-step instructions, the students built lantern frames, pasted colorful paper and added decorative details, gradually turning simple materials into delicate handmade lanterns.

After the workshop, the group headed to the Bailuzhou Lantern Festival to enjoy the illuminated displays. As night fell, the park was filled with dazzling lanterns of various shapes and designs, creating a vibrant festive atmosphere.

The experience offered students a lively glimpse into one of China's most cherished holidays and its rich folk customs.
