Forty-five young people of Chinese heritage from around the world recently gathered in Xuzhou, Jiangsu, for a summer camp that brought history, traditional culture and modern innovation to life.

The campers began their journey by exploring Xuzhou's rich Han Dynasty (206BC-220) heritage. At the Peixian Museum and Guishan Han Tomb, they examined ancient artifacts, explored an imperial tomb and learned about Han-era rituals. At the Su Shi Memorial Hall, they were introduced to Su Shi, the celebrated Song Dynasty (960-1279) scholar.

Their trip was not confined to museums. The campers made sachets, tried tie-dyeing and crafted pottery, turning traditional culture into hands-on experiences and memories they could take home.

The camp also offered a glimpse of Xuzhou's modern industrial strength. At the excavator division of XCMG, they learned how construction machinery is made, while a visit to China Safety Valley gave them the opportunity to experience drone technology firsthand and even conduct a test flight.

The camp concluded with a multicultural showcase featuring Spanish songs, piano ensemble performances and French choral singing. Different languages and cultural traditions shared one stage, creating a fitting finale to a journey that connected young people of Chinese heritage with both their cultural roots and contemporary China.
