The China-Mongolia College of Excellent Engineers was launched on Sept 15 at the Ulaanbaatar campus of the Mongolian University of Science and Technology, following a ceremony to sign an agreement on the joint development of the college.

As a joint initiative of China University of Mining and Technology (CUMT) and Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), this college marks the first collaborative project between Chinese and Mongolian universities and enterprises to cultivate world-class skilled engineers. It represents a practical step toward deepening Sino-Mongolian cooperation in science and education and advancing the integration of industry and education.

The college will primarily focus on joint training of master's and doctoral students while offering training programs for in-service engineering and technical personnel. It aims to gradually explore an integrated talent cultivation pathway that spans undergraduate through doctoral education.

By implementing an international cooperative training mechanism that alternates between academic study and practical engineering work, the college seeks to embed real-world industrial scenarios throughout the educational process to nurture a cohort of high-quality professionals with international perspectives who can solve complex engineering problems.

Zhang Jixiong, president of CUMT, said that the college will actively promote the mutual recognition of standards and qualifications of engineering education in the energy resources sector.

Building on the distinctive strengths of the energy resources discipline, the college will address the practical needs of the mining industries in both countries and innovate the joint training model for excellent engineers, contributing to the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Mongolia and the high-quality development of the Belt and Road Initiative, Zhang said.
