Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) saw 21 disciplines included in the 2026 ShanghaiRanking's Global Ranking of Academic Subjects (GRAS), with 12 ranking among the global top 100.
The GRAS, released by ShanghaiRanking, a professional higher education evaluation institution, on Sept 15, covers 57 subjects in five major fields — natural sciences, engineering, life sciences, medical sciences, and social sciences. More than 3,000 universities worldwide qualified for inclusion, while the final list includes nearly 20,000 subject programs at over 2,000 higher education institutions from 96 countries and regions.
NUAA's aeronautical and astronautical engineering program has maintained its position as third in the world for six consecutive years.
NUAA has strengthened its aerospace-related academic programs and encouraged collaboration across disciplines, in line with China's national development priorities.
This effort has bolstered faculty development, high-level research output, and international academic exchanges, propelling several disciplines to global prominence.
The university saw 17 of its core engineering disciplines included on the list. Mechanical engineering and transportation engineering showed significant progress, while computer science and engineering advanced from the 151-200 range to 51-75. Other disciplines, such as remote sensing, communication engineering, and power electronics, remained in the 51-75 range. Emerging fields like artificial intelligence and robotics also remained within the top 100 globally.
Looking ahead, NUAA will continue to strengthen its academic offerings, boost innovation, and nurture talent to support China's aerospace ambitions and technological self-reliance.
