Students of Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics will return on campus this autumn to find their dining halls freshly renovated and decorated with an aeronautical theme.
The renovated dining halls are expansive and use a high quantity of metal and quirky lighting fixtures to create a modern impression. Model of aircrafts that have been designed by alumni are displayed in showcases and inspirational backlit photographs of space hang on the dining hall walls.
No. 5 Canteen is perhaps the most impressive example of these new decorations as it resembles an aircraft cabin and is complete with a 'boarding gate' at the entrance. It also includes eating sections that are labeled 'VIP passengers' and 'pilots'.
Aside from continuing to offer healthy and well-priced meals averaging around 10 yuan ($1.50), the dining halls now boast an extended number of hangout spots and student activities. It is hoped that this will help turn the dining halls into more of a gathering space for students.
