As an international student in China, Nawishta’s line of research is far from straightforward and she has encountered many difficulties both inside and outside of the laboratory.

Firstly, both the experimental instruments and data processing software she uses are in Chinese. She has had to study Chinese intensely, which all students of the language will acknowledge is no light burden. She is grateful to the patient guidance of Professor Xia, a mentor and friend to her since joining the program.

"Through Professor Xia Hui’s encouragement and guidance, as well as the help of other students in the team, I’ve overcome the difficulties. Finally, I found the direction of my research."

Hard work certainly pays off and, encouragingly, in only just three years Nawishta has composed a number of high-level papers. She has a bright future in the world of science and research ahead of her.

In recent years, China’s educational system has continued to attract highly talented international students through the constant growth of its academic reputation. The number of individuals engaged in high-level academic research at Chinese universities is growing, as are the range of achievements attained.

Nanjing University of Science and Technology (NUST) is a prime example of this trend. It encourages the active involvement of international students in research activities.

The university has introduced a couple of measure to reward international students who publish papers in high-level academic journals and to encourage attendance at prestigious international conferences in students’ respective disciplines. NUST has accordingly created “Incentive Measure of Paper Publishing for NUST international Students” and “Subsidization Regulation of Attendance in International Conference for NUST international Students”.

In the past three years, international students from NUST have published over one hundred academic papers. Among them, more than 80 pieces have been cited by SCI or EI. The international students of NUST are becoming to be a new force in academic research across the university.

Note: Professor Xia Hui is engaged in research in the field of energy storage materials and devices. His main research lies in secondary lithium-ion batteries and supercapacitors. Outstanding international students are invited to join Prof. Xia’s research team. For further information please refer to the research team’s website: http://xiahui.weebly.com/.
