East China’s Jiangsu province is looking to cement ties with one of the world’s soccer powerhouses to train a new generation of talent capable of launching China to World Cup glory, as officials from Jiangsu held talks with a delegation from Argentina in the provincial capital Nanjing on Feb 23.

Improving the quality of soccer training for Jiangsu teens was top of the agenda as Zhu Weiguo, deputy director-general of the Education Department of Jiangsu Province, sat down with his opposite number Rodrigo Bravo, consultant of the municipal government of Buenos Aires and chairman of Argentine Fund for Strategic Dialog.

The two-time World Cup winners and Brazil 2014 runners-up can offer invaluable assistance in helping Jiangsu foster a new breed of world-class Chinese soccer players.

Bravo put forward a number of practical proposals during the talks, including introducing soccer coaches from the Argentina Soccer Coaches Association (ATFA), promoting its online videos for virtual coaching, as well as boosting mutual school exchanges.

Zhu Weiguo expressed his approval for Bravo’s proposals, adding that Argentine coaches should learn the physical condition of Chinese students beforehand and apply suitable training programs.

Zhu also invited Argentina to participate in the World Youth Invitational Football Tournament held in Jiangsu, and called for the fostering of more school exchanges between the two sides with the aim of making substantive progress in soccer cooperation.
