Keeping up its pace in educational informatization, the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education and China’s e-commerce giant Alibaba’s cloud computing arm Alibaba Cloud joined hands to promote smart education on April 26.

According to Ge Daokai, director-general of the Jiangsu Provincial Department of Education, Jiangsu will take advantage of Alibaba Cloud’s strength in cloud computing and big data processing and set up an integrated data center to help foster an information system which anyone can access anywhere and at anytime.

He regards the cooperation as mutually beneficial in that Alibaba Cloud can strengthen its innovation platform and gain practical experience, while Jiangsu can see a big step forward in developing people-oriented education.

Hu Xiaofeng, president of Alibaba Cloud, expressed his confidence that a win-win situation will be achieved between the two sides.

He said on the strength of Alibaba Cloud’s exploration of effective ways of delivering traditional education by intelligent means, such as Taobao University, an online and offline learning platform for people involved in e-commerce, Jiangsu’s deep educational roots will be sure to bring equal benefit to the company, so that fruitful results can be reached in the areas of smart education applications, innovation, R&D and talent training.

By utilizing cloud computing and storage Jiangsu has started development of “smart campuses”. Several pilot programs based on universities and vocational colleges are to be launched soon.
