Thirty-seven students and teachers from Taiwan enjoyed a cultural summer school held by the Nanjing University of Aeronautics and Astronautics (NUAA) from June 26 to July 6.

Themed on cross-Straits culture, the Taiwan delegation was first given three lectures centering on aeronautical knowledge, the history of Nanjing’s famous city wall, and traditional music popular in Jiangnan, the region south of the Yangtze River in which Nanjing is located.

Visits to various local cultural landmarks were another thread of the summer school. The Taiwan visitors delved into Nanjing’s history at the city museum, got a better understanding of China’s Republican Period (1912-49) at Dr Sun Yat-sen’s Mausoleum and the Presidential Palace, and had a taste of ancient Chinese academia at the Confucius Temple and Imperial Examination Museum.

Students and teachers attending the summer school regarded their visit to Nanjing as enjoyable and rewarding, as it increased the students’ knowledge of the history and cultures of both Taiwan and the Chinese mainland and deepened their friendship with their mainland counterparts.

One of the visiting teachers expressed her appreciation for the thoughtful arrangements made by NUAA. She said she believed that more and more Taiwan students will come to NUAA to join in the summer school in the future.
