The cakes even found admirers thousands of miles away across China, as students bought up boxes of Wang’s creations to send home to their families.
One group of thirty students who were not able to travel home to see their families during the eight-day public holiday, which ran Oct 1-8, decided to make a special batch of mooncakes using Wang’s recipe on Sept 27.
The students’ batch of 200 mooncakes ended up on tables all over China, with students sending them to relatives in Hainan, Shaanxi, Henan and Zhejiang provinces.
“It’s a healthy present for my family, as well as a token of my best wishes to them for a joyous festival,” said Cao Kexin, a second year student at the school.
She was delighted to share the mooncakes with her grandfather, who had a sweet tooth but usually was not able to eat the seasonal snack due to his health problems.
