Bulling, a micro film presented by students from Zhonghua High School in Nanjing, Jiangsu province, won the Best Senior High School Student Works Award at the Fourth China-EU Youth Film Festival on Nov 26. 

Directed by Guan Ye and co-produced by Gao Nijie, Zhang Zehua and Yan Yuhao, the film focuses on emotional abuse among teenagers, discussing how school bullying can pose physical and spiritual harm to youngsters, and calling for enlightened reflection on the thorny practice. 

"Emotional abuse is not such a heated topic, but it does take place on the campus," said Zhu Qingsong, instructor of the student team. 

"Though the film is only about 20 minutes long, it took the students almost one year to finish," Zhu said. "They polished the script four times in addition to managing all the shooting during their free time." 

Zhu said the students kept strict and respectful attitudes during filming. 

"Sometimes we could only shoot a few scenes a week," he added. 

Bulling was the only student work from Jiangsu province to bag an award. 

The film festival received roughly 1,000 works created by teenagers from all across the globe, with some of them even studying at world-leading film schools including the University of Leuven in Belgium, the School of Cinematic Arts at the University of South California, the London Film School, and the Beijing Film Academy.
