Having pursued studies at the Autonomous University of Barcelona in Spain, Peking University in China and Stanford University in the United States, Mario Lanza picked Soochow University in Jiangsu province to continue his scientific undertaking and share his knowledge with Chinese students.

"I have felt in my bones the strong backup that the university and local government have offered," Lanza said, "I got financial support and free access to top experimental facilities, which I cannot realize even in Stanford."

"That's why I joined the Soochow University," Lanza said.

Ever since his arrival in 2013, the ambitious man has on one hand endeavored to turn research results into tangible yields, while on the other devoted himself to international communication.

He has registered four international patents, including a grapheme-based tip which can be used for electrical property testing, and has won a fund of 5.6 million yuan ($811,853) among a total investment of 20 million yuan.

"It's of diversified difficulties to transfer scientific payoffs into practical use, but we're making progress," said Lanza, who was appointed as a full professor at the Institute of Functional Nano and Soft Materials in July 2017.
