FAQ about Sino-foreign cooperative education

Updated:2015-12-24

Q: What are the advantages of Sino-foreign cooperative education?

A: Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions and programs approved by the Ministry of Education have brought in quality education resources from abroad. Students are able to gain international education experience without leaving China, which lowers costs compared with self-funded overseas study. Bilateral academic degree certificates are available upon graduation, and are recognized by the Chinese Service Center for Scholarly Exchange (CSCSE) of the Ministry of Education.

Q: Which Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions or programs have legal enrollment rights?

A: All the Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions and programs published in the 2015 Jiangsu Enrollment & Test Report are eligible to receive applications. For detailed information, please go to http://www.jsj.edu.cn. Except for Jiangnan University North American College and Soochow University LaSalle College, higher education institutions in the province should enroll students through the National College Entrance Examination. For specific admission information, please consult with the enrollment departments of relevant institutions.

Q: What are the requirements for teachers from foreign education institutions?

A: Teachers from foreign education institutions working in China should teach more than one third of courses pertaining to any given major. Foreign teachers employed by Chinese education institutions may teach basic courses, while core courses must be taught by teachers employed by the foreign party.

Q: How do Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions deal with the school registration and the education plans of students who do not go abroad?

A: Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions and programs have separate education plans for students based on whether they go abroad or not. For example, in the fourth year of an undergraduate program, the school will implement one teaching plan for students staying in China and another for those going abroad. Most schools have established a system to communicate their requirements to students.

Q: What do academic degree certificates issued by a foreign Sino-foreign cooperative education institution look like?

A: The academic degree certificates issued by a Chinese Sino-foreign cooperative institution are the same as those issued by the non-cooperative part of that school for completion of the same major in China. Academic degree certificates issued by a foreign Sino-foreign cooperative education institution are the same as those issued by that institution in its own country, and are recognized in this country as well. None of the academic degree certificates, whether issued by the Chinese or foreign party, contain words like "Sino-foreign cooperatively-run", "international" or "China".

Q: How do Sino-foreign cooperative education institutions charge tuition fees?

A: A Chinese Sino-foreign cooperative education institution will apply for a charging license at the provincial price control department, and show its detailed tuition fees, as well as indicate the fees in enrollment guidebooks. Tuition fees are charged academic year by academic year. In any given year, tuition fees will not be charged by both parties. For example, if in one year, the students study in China, then they must pay under the Chinese fee rates. If next year they go abroad, then they must pay under the foreign party's fee rates.
