The frequent international exchanges at the campus over the past five years have also impressed the professor.

Though a native Spanish speaker and fluent in Chinese, Lanza set strict language requirements on his students – communicating in English, writing English papers, and delivering English academic reports. Each of his students can have a six to 12-month-long exchange at foreign schools, and two doctoral students have received Stanford offers for post-doctoral studies.

Lanza is also actively promoting high-end international scientific cooperation, which, according to him, will help elevate Jiangsu province's global image.

Such is the case with the first International Resistance Random Access Memory Conference, which kicked off at Soochow University in June 2017 with Lanza as its chairman. The conference helped the university refresh its scientific image among foreign attendees.

At present, Lanza has conducted cooperation with his tutors at Stanford and many companies in related industries have sought scientific support from him.

"Opportunities are springing and more and more people are willing to join Soochow University's group," said the professor.

Lanza is one of the continuous efforts Soochow University has made to attract global professionals. The school was eye-catchingly crowned by Nature Index as one of the fastest growing universities in the world in 2015-2016.
