Tang Jing, manager of a local vegetable production base, said she has planted roughly 20,000 "yellow roses" this year. Each can be sold at around 8 to 10 yuan, yielding a sales revenue of 190,000 yuan.
The creator, Professor Hou, was quite modest about his dedication to generating such impressive market values.
"I was devoted to enriching the vegetable's nutritional value and had no idea about it making such a profit."
In fact, once available on the market, the cute "flower" won the hearts of consumers. The ease with which is can be stored and transported, as well as its taste and appearance, has made it a popular gift vegetable in both domestic and foreign markets.
