At the invitation of Suzhou municipal government, a delegation of officials from the Ismailia governorate in Egypt embarked on a journey to the eastern Chinese city and visited the Suzhou Foreign Language School March 19.
The Egyptian delegation received a warm welcome from the school, the only one of its kind in Jiangsu offering Arabic language classes to middle school students. The delegates saw the school's dedication to inspiring students and teachers iwith various joint research programs.
The program delving into the similarities in and differences between Chinese and Egyptian papermaking technologies aroused great interest among the Egyptian delegation, as it not only reflected students' historical and geographical understanding, but also boosted their integration of chemical and statistical knowledge and practical operational abilities, and invited them to think in an independent way.
The two sides gave gifts to each other, with the Egyptian delegation inscribing "Wish you all a prosperous future" on papyrus, the material used in their traditional paper making. The Suzhou school extended the famous Chinese saying, "It is always a pleasure to greet a friend from afar."
