In 2018 I was on the 12th grade, I still don’t have plan for my future. Just like, I still don’t know where should I go to college, or I’m just going to find some job. But, 2 months before I graduate from high school, my mom got the advertisement about studying abroad. I was confused at that time because my mom asked me “do you want to study at Indonesia or studying abroad?” I was so happy if I can studying abroad because there is many opportunities when I’m graduate and maybe it would make my parents proud and then I can add many experience in my life.

At first I never thought that I would come to China because when I’m in junior high school until high school I don’t like Chinese language because for me Chinese language is hard and I cannot even speak or read Chinese word properly. Before I came to China I’m taking Chinese course for two months and then I’m starting to get used to Chinese word. Then, I’ve contact some agency to help me to study in China. And now here I am at Nanjing Tech University.

Before I came to China, I thought it was a mistake to come here because when I leave my country I also leaving my all friends and my family. The first day I came to Nanjing I was homesick and feel scared because this is the first time I’m going to different country to study. And I’m scared too that I can’t survive at china because of my Chinese language limitation. But I’m grateful because when I came to Nanjing I met many good people from different country such as Mongolia, Malaysia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Russia and many more.  that helped me to grew up here.

There is some people that went abroad and ruined their lives, but different to me. Personally though, I consider my time in university as my most valuable experience. I found many good experience when I came to China. I though at China, there is not something fun here and I thought Chinese people does not like to make a friend with foreigner, but I was wrong because there are many beautiful places at Nanjing and the people of this City is very kind to foreigners. I have make many friends with Chinese people now, because the way they treat me as their friend.

Since I move to Nanjing to study, I have learned many things in my life after get along in this City, because for me it is a little hard to adapt here. The first thing is, I cannot use the app that I usually use in my Country. I have to download VPN to keep in touch with my friends and family in Indonesia. But now I have told my friends and family to download the WeChat app to contact me so I don’t have to turn on the VPN to contact with them. and then I think the weather in China is extreme, because at my country there is no winter season. Before winter I thought that winter will be fun because I have been waiting for real snow in my life, but when I feel the real winter it feels really cold until I cannot even feel my toes. but the favorite part of winter is when it snows here, the coldness that I feel in my body suddenly disappeared. It is really fun to play snow when winter because it makes me forget about the coldness. However, study here was a fantastic experience, I have change my habits from a lazy person to become an active student in participating in every event such as joining the marathon of the university, participate in 太极拳and 形意拳competition. And then because there is 中国文化 lesson, I am start to interested to the Chinese culture after I studied about it and it add many insight and knowledge about China.

My decision to study at china was not on my dream list, but I was grateful that I could got the scholarship to study abroad at Nanjing Tech University. I can change my habits to be responsible to the task that have been given to me, learn to be always on time in every situation. I was so lucky I choose Nanjing as the city where I am study. Because this city have teach me everything, living in Nanjing while study gives me a more rounded, bigger perspective of the world. It takes me out of my comfort zone as I have to adapt to a new way of doing things. I always have the amazing memories of my study abroad experience. The beautiful scenery of this city, the kind hearted people of this city makes me love this city. I know one day this valuable experience will help me for my career in the future. Thanks to Nanjing that already give me such an unforgettable experience.
